Frequently Asked Questions
Kavana was co-founded in 2006 by rabbinic and lay leaders working in tandem, and quickly earned a national reputation for its innovative approach to building local Jewish community. Kavana’s cooperative model values empowerment, and our staff members work closely with our community members, called partners, to bring our vision to reality. Kavana is also one of the seven communities of the Jewish Emergent Network.

Not at all! Our programs are open to anyone interested in our community, and we’d love to meet you. If you’re coming to our programs for the first time, you might hear from our Director of Community Engagement, Avital, so that she can get to know you better before you join us (in-person or virtually!).
-
Our programs happen all over Seattle - you can find us in a local coffee shop, venue, or even a partner’s home for our programming. While Queen Anne is “technically” our central meeting point, we try to spread out our experiences throughout Seattle so that our community is accessible to everyone. All of our events list the neighborhood that the program will take place in, which allows for easy planning.
We send out the location details for a program a day or two before the event is taking place, so don’t worry if you don’t have the location information before then!

The majority of our programming is free of cost, but if any of our gatherings do require a fee, you’ll see so on the registration page of the event. We have two annual events and series that do require a fee; our High Holidays and our Youth Educational programming that goes throughout the year.
-
Absolutely! Just make sure that they register for our events so that we know to expect them.
