Lag Ba'Omer Bonfire
Bonfire on the Beach
The 49 days of the Omer are kind of serious. Lag Ba'Omer is the exception (PARTY!), so we're going to have a bonfire and BBQ.
Date: Mon. May 11
Time: 6:30pm - 9:30pm
Cost: Free, but we ask everyone to contribute a food item for the group
Bring: Frisbees, beach toys for kids, lawn chairs, tarps & blankets to lounge on, guitars & other musical instruments, songs to share...
Rain Plan: Get wet, eat s'mores with the other hardy souls who show up in rain gear
And here is some background information about Lag BaOmer, courtesy of wikipedia:
Lag BaOmer is a Jewish holiday celebrated on the thirty-third day of the counting of the Omer. The origins of the Omer count are found in the Torah itself, in Leviticus 23:15-16, which states that it is a commandment to count seven complete weeks from the day after the Passover seder, ending with the festival of Shavuot on the fiftieth day. The 49 days of the Omer correspond both to the time between physical emancipation from Egypt and the spiritual liberation of the giving of the Torah at the foot of Mount Sinai on Shavuot, as well as the time between the barley harvest and the wheat harvest in ancient Israel.
