"Rebbe's Tisch"
Join us for a "Rebbe's Tisch" led by Rabbi Jonah Steinberg and Rabbi Rachel Nussbaum.
Tisch = the Yiddish word for "table." In this context, it refers to a spiritual gathering that happens around a table. It started centuries ago in Hasidic communities, and involves a lot of singing, some l'chaims, a few words of Torah....
This tisch is going to have the energy, holiness and kavana of a traditional Hasidic gathering, but with a modern twist. (It's not a prayer service, because there is no liturgy. It's not a class, because there is more drinking. Maybe it's about using music to tap into mystical energy?)
Date: Sat. Sept. 11, 2010
Location: A home in Queen Anne - please contact us for address.
Time: 8:30 - 10:30pm (please be on time - we'll start with Havdalah)
Bring: Your favorite drink to share (alcoholic or not - whatever you prefer)
FYI: Most of the songs don't have words (and if they do, it's the same line over and over) - don't worry about whether you know them or not; you'll catch on very quickly. Just come with an open mind, and a willingness to sing.
