Book Club

 

The Kavana Book Club is now entering its fifth year of discussing provocative Jewish fiction and non-fiction. This year we continue our exploration of some of the hottest and coolest contemporary Jewish writers. Join us for a Sunday morning chat facilitated by Hannah Pressman and featuring some of Seattle's tastiest treats!

This year we will be meeting on Sunday mornings from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. on the following dates:

- November 6 - 36 Arguments for the Existence of God: A Work of Fiction by Rebecca Newberger Goldstein
- January 22 - The Arrogant Years: One Girl's Search for Her Lost Youth, from Cairo to Brooklyn by Lucette Lagnado
- March 18th - Until the Dawn's Light by Aharon Appelfeld
- May 8th & 15th - Explore the works of Joshua Sobol
- July (date t.b.d.) - The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman

In May, Kavana's Book Club is switching things up a bit and will explore the works of Joshua Sobol - the Israeli artist in residence at UW for the spring.

** May 15th, 7:00 p.m.: Israeli Drama comes to Life: Selected Readings from the Plays of Joshua Sobol, Schusterman Visiting Artist at the University of Washington, Spring 2012

Join the UW School of Drama and the Stroum Jewish Studies Program for a special evening with eminent Israeli playwright Joshua Sobol. Readings will be directed by Tamara Fisch and performed by School of Drama Faculty, PATP Students & Members of the Endangered Species Project.  Following the performance, Joshua Sobol will host a Question & Answer session. Linger afterwards for more intimate conversation, coffee and dessert reception. Tuesday, May 15th at 7:00 p.m. at Floyd and Delores Jones Playhouse: 4045 University Way NE, Seattle.  No charge to attend. Book: The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman
One of the buzziest books to emerge this past fall, this historical novel imagines the lives of four women converging at Masada, the ancient Judean fortress.
