Havdalah Club

Havdalah Club is a once a month, Saturday evening program for children in grades 3, 4 and 5.

The goals of this program are:  to help children develop critical thinking skills in a Jewish context, to teach kids how to grapple with life's questions and problems using Jewish texts and values, and to provide a fun environment in which to meet other Jewish kids.

Activities include:

  • Eating dinner together (it's a pizza party, every time!)
  • Discussions and debates around Jewish ethical questions, from the serious to the silly
  • Games, art projects, etc.
  • A short Havdalah ceremony to end Shabbat together

Location:  In order to provide an intimate environment, hosting responsibility will rotate to different kids' homes.  You will have the opportunity to host, if you'd like to.

Havdalah Club is led by Maxine Alloway, who is talented at taking very difficult issues (like Jewish identity) and making them meaningful and exciting to 10 year-olds.

Cost per kid:

  • Single Program $20/partners, $30/non-partners
  • Series (Sept 2010 - May 2011) $120/partners, $180/non-partners

Note that, starting this year, Havdalah Club will be linked with Family Shabbat.  We strongly encourage you to sign up for both programs together.  Kids in 3rd - 5th grades will have the opportunity to take on leadership roles at Family Shabbat.
