Lag Ba'Omer - Grilling at the Gersons, Hot Dogs at the Hanscoms

Lag Ba'Omer is Hebrew shorthand for the 33rd day of the Omer.  (Lag, or the letters lamed & gimmel is the gematria for 33.)  Lag BaOmer falls on the 33rd day of the counting of the Omer, as counted from the second day of Passover until the holiday of Shavuot.   An "omer" is a measure of barley.  In Biblical times, on the second day of Passover, it was a commandment to bring barley the size of an omer to the Temple in Jerusalem.  Then, fifty days later, on Shavuot, it was a commandment to bring the first offering of the wheat harvest.  Traditionally, it is a time of dancing and singing.  Families go on picnics and outings.

In that spirit, we're going to get together for a community BBQ in the Gerson/Hanscom family's Queen Anne backyard.  (Please contact us for address.)

Date:  Sun. May 2, 2010
Time:  5-7pm

The Gerson/Hanscom family will provide the location, and a grill.
We ask everyone else to chip in for the grill-ables, condiments, drinks, other snacks, etc.  Please use this HANDY SPREADSHEET TO SIGN UP for what you'll bring, and/or to sign-up to help out with grilling, clean up, etc.

Also, feel free to bring lawn-chairs, blankets, toys, etc.

Heavy rain will cancel.

Note:  If you have a portable grill at home, please bring it!  The more grilling, the merrier!
Another note:  We hope to have both kosher and vegetarian hot dogs.  If it is important to you that these NOT be cooked on an "all-purpose" grill, let us know in advance, and we'll try to make it happen!
