Bar & Bat Mitzvah Conversations for Parents

If you could dream up the ideal Bar or Bat Mitzvah, what would it look like?  How would you make it happen for your child?

We here at Kavana are blessed with the opportunity to dream - and we want to make the most of it.  We want Bar and Bat Mitzvah celebrations that are meaningful, to both the kids and their families.  We want something authenticly Jewish, with a pride in Jewish tradition and a hunger to learn more.  We also recognize that each Bar or Bat Mitzvah has to be appropriate for each family - we're a pluralistic community, and we each have different needs.  (But we definitely aren't about disco balls, cookie-cutter speeches or empty memorization.)

How are we going to do this?  A group of parents has been meeting quarterly to talk about how to make the process more meaningful.  We're still figuring it out, and we welcome you to take part in the conversation.  The last meeting date for this year is:

  • Fall 2011 TBD

(If you're wondering about how many Bar or Bat Mitzvah celebrations we've ever done at Kavana, the answer is zero.  Our first one will be in the 2011-2012 school year!  Actually, we'll have several in 2011-2012, and many more in the following years.)

Also, please note that while these conversations are for parents only, we have just launched a new program specificially for Middle schoolers.  Click here to check it out!
